PROFILE

Frank K. Lord IV is a partner in Herrick, Feinstein LLP’s Art Law Group.

Frank represents collectors, art dealers, claimants, auction houses and museums in matters relating to art and cultural property law. He advises clients on a wide range of issues, including the purchase and sale of important artworks privately or at public auction, museum exhibitions and collections management policies, and the use of art as loan collateral. Frank also works closely with Herrick’s white collar crime, insurance, intellectual property, finance, and tax and personal planning practices to provide specialized services in diverse matters relating to artworks.

Notable transactions include the sale of paintings to the J. Paul Getty Museum, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Among Frank’s ongoing cases is his work with Marei von Saher—the heir of Dutch art dealer Jacques Goudstikker—who is pursuing the recovery of hundreds of artworks that were seized by the Nazis during World War II.

Frank obtained his undergraduate degree in Art History from Davidson College, his PhD in Art History from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill—where he also worked as a teaching assistant and an instructor for undergraduate classes—and his law degree from Columbia University School of Law.
