Debottam T. Bose
Debottam T. Bose is a project finance lawyer by training, who worked with Skadden, Arps, Slate Meagher & Flom LLP (London) and White & Case LLP (London). He studied art history in London at the School of Oriental & African Studies (SOAS) and went on to develop a niche consultancy with a focus on international art, finance and philanthropy. He divides his time in India between New Delhi, Mumbai and Calcutta. He is admitted to the Supreme Court of India. The Indian art market and “art law” are in their infancy; where required Debottam would provide the art related advice and guidance whereas the logistics would be with the appropriate local firm, e.g., Nishith Desai Associates, AZB & Partners, Khaitan & Co, working under his direction.
Debottam advises primarily private collectors, including their private museums, on a wide variety of art transactions, disputes and regulatory matters. He also advises India’s premier museum, the CSMV, for whom he has created a compendium of art law related issues.
Debottam guest lectures on art law at Harvard Law School, Harvard Business School and at Columbia University along with Sotheby’s Institute and Christie’s Education in New York.
He speaks English, Bengali and Hindi.
