Massimo Sterpi moderates panel at the IBA 5th Silicon Beach Conference in Santa Monica. Litigation involving cryptoassets covers a very wide range of subjects: from frauds to regulatory non compliance, from IP infringement to tax evasion, with so many issues involving both technology and legal issues being inextricably intertwined.
A new generation of lawyers – nicely dubbed “crypto-associates” by one of the panelists – is emerging, who are conversant with the various aspects to be taken into account in any transaction involving cryptoassets.
As another panelist said: “You may draft the most perfect IP license for a utility token, but if the token is deemed to be a security traded without authorization, your client risks to end up in jail”. Being multidisciplinary is then not a plus in cryptoassets, but rather a basic necessity.
